Recently, a CSM PhD student was awarded with a Santander Mobility Grant.

Higor Vinícius dos Reis Leite was awarded a Santander Mobility Grant valued at £1,000 in support to his research funded by the Brazilian government on the topic: “Are the BRICS following the developed countries in terms of Lean healthcare implementation?”

Higor will visit public emergency departments in Brazil (in Curitiba and Sao Paulo) from May to July 2015 and carry out interviews with patients and staff, also observation of the patient's pathway will be done (to identify the main issues across the process). Higor will also visit and interview practitioners with experience in process improvements and also visit some private emergency areas which already implemented improvements within their processes. The aim is to identify the barriers and opportunities to improve the patient's pathway in Brazilian public emergency departments.
