Physics MPhys

Looking around the campus and physics department and speaking to the staff completely grabbed me.

Why did you choose to study at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ?

The cricket facilities was the initial attracting factor for me, but looking around the campus and physics department, speaking to the staff completely grabbed me.

What made you choose to study Physics?

I only took physics A-Level by chance and initially had very little interest. However, I quickly found being able to explain real world phenomena and solve complex problems on interesting topics incredibly fascinating and satisfying.

Did you come on an open day? If so, how did that influence your decision to study at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ?

I came on an open day, and this was the primary factor in my choosing º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ as I was incredibly impressed with the physics department and found the staff interesting and accommodating.

What do you enjoy most about being a º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ student?

The identity of the university with its sporting reputation, paired with being part of a genuinely revolutionary Physics programme.

What do you enjoy most about your course?

Personally, the computational modelling. I had never coded before coming to º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ and initially was not the field’s biggest advocate but now It is what I want to pursue as a career.

Tell us about your group project and how that has helped you?

My group project is on implementing a Space-Time Adaptive Processing (STAP) algorithm to make process towards efficiency of radars against jamming signals and general clutter. Although very early in the project, it is evident there will be real world applications and will be founded in programming, two things that will be fantastic both for my personal accomplishments and skillsets but will look fantastic on a CV when applying to data engineering/modelling jobs in the future.

What advice would you give to someone considering studying Physics at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ?

You will be challenged almost immediately, learning content earlier than in most other physics programmes. However, the course is structured to best allow you to adapt and develop as fast as possible.

What are your plans for the future?

Upon graduating the Integrated Master Programme, I want to go into data/software engineering and plan to, at some stage create my own software company.
