Terahertz Light: Nonlinear ghost imaging for waveform control, imaging and communication

Presenter: Dr Luke Peters, Emergent Photonics Research Centre, Department of Physics, º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ

Terahertz Nonlinear Ghost Imaging is a novel methodology that helps us see and understand objects at an incredibly detailed level, surpassing the diffraction limit. We use this technique for various purposes, such as creating four-dimensional images in the terahertz range, controlling waveforms through scattering materials, and setting up customisable terahertz communication links. In the seminar, we'll discuss the practical applications and theories behind this concept, based on our research at the Emergent Photonics Research Centre.

Luke earned his MPhys in Physics with Nanotechnology from the University of Hull in 2014. In 2018, he completed his PhD at the University of Sussex on Surface Terahertz Phenomena, receiving the Roger Blin-Stoyle award for an outstanding thesis. From 2018 to 2022, Luke worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Sussex on the ERC project TIMING, including a secondment in 2019 at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology for bio-imaging. Since 2022, he has been a Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellow at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, leading the project SIGNAL. Luke also holds the position of Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Sussex.
