Low-cost Magnetic Resonance to Determine the Quality and Authenticity of Foods
Speaker: Prof Rob Morris (Nottingham Trent University)
Magnetic resonance is a powerful technique, most well-known for its use in imaging and spectroscopy. The expense and size however of such instruments limits their use for high volume screening of samples. Time domain NMR instrumentation can however be produced in a way which is both portable and cost effective. This seminar will present the benefits and drawbacks and time domain NMR as a possible means to create portable devices capable of determining the quality and authenticity of food products at or near the point of sale, and look at the development work which is currently underway to achieve this goal.
