Why did you choose º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ?
Prior to visiting º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, I did lots of research online. Many things attracted me to º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, including that it places so highly in league tables in general and for maths specifically. I found out that the maths building had been recently refurbished and read lots about the MLSC and the awards it has won and thought it was an excellent idea for a university. I also fell in love with º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ after attending an open day and that’s when I made my decision that this was where I wanted to study.
What made you choose to study Maths?
I always enjoyed and excelled in maths from a young age. I love the logic of maths and knowing there is a right or wrong answer that if I follow what I have been taught will give me a solution to a problem.
Did you come on an open day and/or applicant visit day? If so, how did that influence your decision to study at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ?
I attended both an open day and an applicant day. The open day I attended is when I decided that I wanted to study at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, I loved the campus and I could see myself living there. I found out lots about accommodation and all the sports and societies I could get involved in and enjoyed the talks the maths department provided.
My applicant day gave even more detail about my course and what studying at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ would be like. I would say attending the open and applicant days gave me even more motivation to work hard in my A-levels as I knew how much I was set on attending º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ.
What do you enjoy most about being a º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ student?
I am very proud to be a º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ student in all that we as a university achieve. For example, many of our current and past students competing in sport all over the world. I’m also proud of our position in league tables and the research and findings of our past and current students.
I love the campus and student life. I also love being able to partake in dance at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ as it has always been a passion of mine and that passion has only grown since taking part in lessons, shows and competitions with the LSDC.
I am also extremely grateful for the support of my personal tutor, who has always been so kind and helpful to me throughout my degree. I am about to start my third year and am so far so proud of everything I have achieved so far at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ- especially my results. I was very anxious about returning to in person exams this summer as my assessments had been online so far. However, the support from the staff was extremely reassuring and I was very happy with my results.

What do you enjoy most about your course?
I enjoy the challenges that this course provides me with. Sometimes I struggle with the content at first, but my lecturers are always willing to help me and there is no better feeling for me than finally getting something that I have had trouble with. So far, I have felt a real sense of accomplishment with my results because it means a lot to me that my hard work has paid off and I hope to continue this throughout the rest of my studies.
What advice would you give to someone considering studying Maths at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ?
I would say that if you really enjoy and love the subject you should be extremely happy studying at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ. It is a lot of hard work as maths at university level is very challenging, but there are always resources available to help you and if you ever feel overwhelmed there is support available to you. I think by studying at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ you will find the perfect balance between working hard on your degree and other interests that you would like to get involved in like sports or societies. I am having the best time at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ and would recommend it to anyone who feels passionately about studying their subject at university level.
What do you think about the Maths facilities at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ?
I love the maths building at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, I have spent a lot of time there whether that be in lectures, group work or private study. I think the refurbishment that took place a few years ago was a great idea and the maths building has everything I need located in the perfect location on campus.
What are your plans for the future?
I have just transferred from a BSc in mathematics to an integrated master’s in mathematics (MMath) now graduating in 2024 because I love it at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ so much! I am definitely not ready to leave yet- I love my life at university and studying at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ is everything I’d hoped it would be and I am very much looking forward to my next two years studying here.
