BRDC F3 Podium Finish for Materials Alumnus!

Piers Prior race x 300

Piers Prior graduated from º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ this year after completing a BEng in Automotive Materials with the Department of Materials and is now in his first full season of racing in the British Racing Drivers' Club, (BRDC) Championship for Lanan Racing.

On 2nd August 2020, at Oulton Park, in his first BRDC Championship weekend, he managed to win one of the first three races and came third in the final race, gaining his first podium finish on his first outing for the Bedfordhire based racing team!

In this Championship, the drivers race in three races and their average time is then used to allocate their starting position in the final race - Race 4 - which lasts for 13 laps or 20 minutes, whichever comes first.

The day started with a track temperature at a 'balmy' 34 degrees celcius, making racing a little on the warm side, with Piers starting the final race in 5th position in the third row of the starting grid, immediately taking 4th place on the first corner.

Unfortunately, Piers' team-mate, Bart Horsten who was in third place, left the track a few laps into the race, securing Piers with his third place, which he managed to defend for the rest of the race.

Piers stated:

"It's so good to finally get racing in F3 this year after the delayed start. However, it was nice to get my final year out the way before racing started!  I was also relieved to get some good results in round 1 with a 1st and 3rd in races 2 and 4. The next round is this weekend (15th/16th August) nearby at Donington park, hoping for more good results there."

We are so pleased for Piers and we will be watching to see how he gets on in the rest of the Championship - watch this space for an update later in the season!
