Lunch Celebration with our recently Completing MSc Students
On 5th September, our recently completing MSc students came together with academic staff to celebrate the end of their course.
Students and staff dined at the 4-star Burleigh Court Hotel on the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ campus, raising a glass to their time at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ.
Attendees reflected on their time at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, sharing comments such as:
“I feel better able to interview for the work I want to do”
“The teaching this year has been inspiring.”
“This has been the best year of my life so far!”
Dr, Noreen Thomas, Reader in Polymer Science and Technology, who has worked closely with the students over the past year, stated that the feelings and thoughts that were shared by the students were overwhelmingly positive. Staff were very happy that they have been able to provide a positive learning environment that empowers students to move forward in their academic and industry-based careers.
The students also shared their next steps, which for several of the students is to commence a PhD at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ. Two other students will be starting a PhD at other universities and a number of students will be going into industry, some here in the UK and some in China.
Professor Gary Critchlow, Head of the Department of Materials, who also attended the celebration lunch, had this to say regarding the event:
“The MSc Dinner is a significant event; it is held on the day that the Major Project Reports are delivered, so marks the end of the Academic Year for the students. It is an occasion to reflect on the joys of studying at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ and of making new friends. It is also an opportunity to look forward to the exciting careers or further research opportunities that the students have ahead of them.”
Everyone in Department of Materials offers their congratulations to our recently completed MSc students and we hope to see some of them return for Winter Graduation so that we can see how they have been getting on since leaving us. We also look forward to working with those students who have chosen to stay at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ to go onto studying a PhD.
Good Luck All – we look forward to seeing you again soon and hearing from you about your achievements!
