Since November 2023, Alia Asheralieva is a Lecturer of the Department of Computer Science in the School of Computer Science, ߲Ƶ, UK. She received her PhD (in Electrical & Computer Engineering) from the University of Newcastle, Australia, in 2015. After obtaining her PhD, from June 2015 to January 2017, she was a Research Assistant Professor of the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, Hokkaido University, Japan. From January 2017 to October 2018, she was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Wireless Networks and Decisions Systems Group, Singapore University of Technology and Design. From October 2018 to November 2023, she was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Southern University of Science and Technology, China. From January 2022 to November 2023, she was also appointed as an Adjunct Professor in the Connected Autonomous Vehicles Lab of the Research Institute of Trustworthy Autonomous Systems (RITAS), SUSTech.
Alia Asheralieva has over 65 scientific publications, including:
- 40 journal articles, 30 as a first author; 10 as a corresponding/co-author, in top-tier journals in the field, such as IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, IEEE Communication Surveys and Tutorials, IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, IEEE Internet of Things Journal, and IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications;

She is included in the World’s Top 2% Scientists List in 22 fields and 176 sub-disciplines by the Science Impact Ranking (Stanford University, USA). She is ranked in the Top 1% Scientists in the World in the field of Information & Communication Technologies (ICT), subfield of Networking & Telecommunications.
She has won several prestigious international research awards, grants and scholarships, including grants of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Ministry of Science and Technology of China (MOST), International Young Scientist Award (NSFC, China), Peacock C Award (MOST, China), Australian Research Higher Degree Award & Scholarship (Ministry of Education, Australia), and Asian Development Bank – Japan Award & Scholarship (Japan).

Alia Asheralieva is an active member of the wider research and innovation community. Her research in 5G/6G networks, IoT/UAV communications, edge computing and blockchains proposes innovative solutions for effective computing, communications, resource/data management, data mining, privacy and security, with far-reaching implications for the broader society in the areas of smart industry and intelligent applications. The results of this research were widely cited not only in scientific publications and patents, but also in other public sources, including Wikipedia. Moreover, her research on 5G/6G networks, blockchains, edge computing and D2D communications has attracted industrial collaborations and projects with International IT companies. Over 65% of her publications involve international academic collaborations; over 10% report results of collaborative academic-industry research with corporate affiliations.
Alia Asheralieva is continuously involved in reviewing manuscripts in the top journals, such as IEEE Network Magazine, IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, and IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems. She has served as a TPC member for prestigious international conferences, including IEEE ICC, INFOCOM, GLOBECOM and PerCom.
