A global leader in chemical recycling technology, Plastic Energy is transforming the global landscape of plastic waste by converting previously unrecyclable plastic into a recycled oil (called TACOIL™) that replaces fossil oils in the production of new plastics.
The company has partnered with º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ since 2012 to accelerate the innovative process to help prevent plastic waste and transform it into a valuable resource. The partnership with º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, led by Professor of Chemical Technologies Steve Christie and reader in analytical chemistry Dr Jim Reynolds, prioritises research and development, building on the innovative work undertaken by Plastic Energy’s technology team.
In 2022 they opened a suite of specialist labs and a dedicated office space on º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Science and Enterprise Park (LUSEP). The research team use state of the art equipment in the new labs to test feedstock and improve the quality of the TACOIL™.
As a finalist in the ‘Innovation in Sustainability’ category, Plastic Energy has been nominated for delivering innovative new technologies and solutions to major challenges.
