The Chemistry department currently comprises about 350 undergraduates, 50 postgraduate MSc students, 80 postgraduate research students and approximately 30 members of academic staff, as well as a range of dedicated technical and support staff.
Our academic and research staff are nationally and internationally recognised as experts in their chosen fields, but are also noted for the excellent pastoral care they provide to students through our personal tutoring system.
Boasting large modern laboratories which have recently undergone extensive refurbishment, plus the outstanding facilities in our state-of-the-art STEMLab, Chemistry at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ encompasses teaching and research in analytical, organic, inorganic and physical chemistry, while specialist teaching and research laboratories exist for polymer chemistry, analytical chemistry, microbiology and molecular pharmacology.
Offering a range of options for study at undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD level, º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ's Department of Chemistry is consistently highly rated in the National Student Survey and is ranked Top 3 for Chemistry in The Guardian University Guide 2022.
Both the University and the Department of Chemistry enjoy enviable industry links. Lecturers from industry contribute to the teaching of both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and also sponsor research projects, greatly enhancing the student experience.
Our Department is active in research and enterprise with academic staff and research students engaged in many high profile and important research projects that continue to have a real world impact in such vital areas as energy and the environment, defence and security, and health and medicine.
