What is the overview of your research project?

I was researching the use of jarosite with iron-rich oxides to find an alternative mix composition for concrete to be used in construction and building materials. I tested the material through compression and flexible strength, microscopic analysis and durability analysis.

Why did you decide to take the PDP opportunity?

I enjoyed travelling and knew it was an opportunity for me to go out of my comfort zone.

What were your career ambitions before starting your PDP and have these changed? If so, how and why?

Before my PDP I wanted to go into the pharmaceutical or water industry when finishing my degree. PDP hasn’t changed that, however, it has given me a new perspective on environmental concerns globally.

What would you say to someone considering studying this course with a Professional Development Project?

I would highly recommend completing the PDP abroad as it is a great opportunity to learn in a different university and environment. It also gives you the chance to learn a new language and culture whilst studying.

What did you learn during your PDP and how do you think this will support your studies?

I have learnt how to find current research and perform lab tests in a new area which will bring a new perspective into the degree moving forward.

What has been the best experience outside of your PDP?

When I went on a trip to Lapland and Nordkapp with friends. Completing many different activities including husky safari, snowmobile safari, snow hike and being able to drive on the right side.

What has been your greatest achievement during your time at University?

Contributing to multiple research papers being published.
