Miss Izabela Lackowska

MEng Chemical Engineering

  • Doctoral Researcher

Background

Izabela is starting the second year of her PhD in the Department of Chemical Engineering in the School of AACME. In her project, she focuses on optimization of pharmaceutical processes through the implementation of microfluidic devices, process intensification and combination of processing stages.

She graduated with an MEng in Chemical Engineering from º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ in 2019 during which she undertook an international exchange to Toulouse France, where she worked on a research project involving microfluidic devices for the purpose of separation of microparticles and bacteria. This has inspired her to undertake a PhD at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ involving microfluidics and pharmaceuticals.

Throughout her undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, she has been involved in the student mentoring scheme, teaching labs for students and prospective student visits as student ambassador for º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ.

Apart from her university involvement, she takes part in the Student Union orchestra society, LSU Classical, in which she plays violin as main violinist and has been on committee as Media Rep during two terms.

Outline of main research interests:

  • Pharmaceutical crystallisation
  • Microfluidic devices for pharmaceutical synthesis and crystallization
  • Pharmaceutical process intensification

Teaching responsibilities:

  • Teaching Assistant, Process Control and Instrumentation (Operation and demonstration of Igloo)
  • PDP student co-supervisor for lab demonstration and guidance

External roles and appointments:

  • Student Ambassador, º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, 2018-2020
  • LSU Classical Media Rep, 2018-2019
