Undergraduate study
Placements and sponsorship
You can incorporate a placement year into any one of our undergraduate degree courses.
A placement year is a fantastic way to gain valuable work experience and start building industry connections of your own.
A placement year allows you to gain valuable experience in a role and industry or sector you’re interested in, develop key skills and competencies sought by graduate recruiters, and build a network of useful contacts. Most placements are salaried, earning you a salary of £17,000 to £22,000, and several students are offered permanent employment to return to after graduation.
A placement year usually takes place after the first two years of study and on completion, students will gain a Diploma in Professional Studies (DPS) or a Diploma in Industrial Studies (DIS). This is an additional award to the final qualification you will receive once you have successfully completed your course.
Sponsorship
The º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Construction Consortium provides a core of sponsoring organisations that offer excellent placement and sponsorship opportunities to our students, supplemented by extensive collaborating organisations across the wider construction sector.
Sponsorship will provide you with a bursary during your study, summer placement work for those who want it and a paid twelve-month placement with your sponsor company. In many cases, students are offered employment with their sponsor company after graduating and many are now in senior positions within these companies.
Placement companies
Students secure a wide variety of placements dependent on personal interests and career ambitions. Examples of recent employers with whom our students have completed placements include:
AECOM, Balfour Beatty, BAM, Bechtel, British Airways, Brunsfield, Costain, DHL Aviation, E C Harris, Etihad, Eurovia, Fluor, Galliford Try, Interserve, ISG, Jaguar Land Rover, Kier Group, Laing O’Rourke, LendLease, Morgan Sindall, Mott MacDonald, Network Rail, Sir Robert McAlpine, Skanska, Southern Water, Taylor Woodrow, Thameslink, Tony Gee, Vinci Construction, and Walter Lilly.
Placement support
Our students are keenly sought after by high profile companies who know from past experience that º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ students are enthusiastic and equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to make a positive contribution to their organisation.
We have an Industrial Training Coordinator who gathers and supplies information about placement opportunities and advises students on what to expect from the placement experience. The placement process is overseen by the School’s Placement Administrator, and we make every effort to help our students secure placements that match their interests and ambitions.
Following the completion of my placement year, Multiplex sponsored my final two years of study at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ. This gave me reassurance for my career progression towards hopefully becoming a Chartered Project Manager.
