Research and expertise

Prior to joining º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ, Mohamed studied for a PhD at Manchester University, an MSc from Al-Azhar University in Egypt, an MEng from Grips University in Japan, and a DipEng from the IISEE institute in Japan. Mohamed also has more than 7 years of industry experience as a structural design engineer working with international construction organisations.

Mohamed's research interests are related to the response of steel and composite structures to focusing on the areas of structural fire engineering, structural earthquake engineering robustness, with particular expertise in the areas of experimental testing as well as computational modelling.

Profile

Mohamed is a Structural Engineer with 7 years of industry experience working with international construction organisations, complemented by over 5 years of academic experience.

Mohamed's research interests are related to the response of steel and composite structures to extreme loads, focusing on the areas of structural fire engineering, structural earthquake engineering and structural robustness, with particular expertise in the areas of experimental testing, analytical modelling and computational modelling. 

He was awarded a PhD from Manchester University which emphasises the robustness of steel structures during a fire. He also worked as a Research Assistant at Manchester University, participating in an EPSRC-funded innovative modular timber construction project. Mohamed obtained an MSc from Al-Azhar University in Egypt, an MEng from Grips University in Japan and a DipEng from the IISEE institute in Japan. He was awarded the best researcher at the end of his MEng degree. 

During his PhD, Mohamed was showing an outstanding research capability as he managed to produce 11 publications in high quality, peer-reviewed journals in a relatively short period of time. Mohamed also produced original and novel contributions to the field of the robustness of steel structures under accidental loadings. His novel device led to a significant enhancement in the ability of a structure to withstand extreme loads, such as earthquake, fire and impact, without being progressively damaged.
