Research and expertise

My current work focuses on improving the process side of Hybrid 3D Concrete Printing to reduce anisotropy and increase layer bonding of the parts.

I started 3D Printing and CAD in 2013, and received certification in SolidWorks in 2014, becoming one of the youngest in the world. Currently I am a certified SolidWorks Expert in Mechanical Design and Simulation.

Before joining º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ for my PhD, I worked on the following activities:

  • Undergraduate project, optimising scan parameters and heat treatment of Scalmalloy using L-PBF additive manufacturing and characterization of the crystal structures using BSE SEM
  • My own control board PCB and firmware for a 5 Axis 3D printer using an ARM microcontroller
  • Building a capacitive proximity sensor using AVR microcontroller and a CNC router
  • Modifying MakerBot Smart Extruder and settings to print flexible materials

Profile

My work in my PhD optimizes the process of Hybrid 3D concrete printing of to increase printed part reliability and to reduce waste.

My interest in 3D printing began over a decade ago and I started exploring CAD design and used a 3D printer. The first 3D printing shop opened in Turkey after this and they offered me a voluntary internship. I was selected to Turkey’s most Creative 50 People 2014 list, by MediaCat with my involvement in the Maker Community.

I founded MakerClub and taught 3D printing, CAD, and electronics for 4 years in high school. As a team, we won the first place twice in a row at Turkey’s National 3D printing Contest. I modified MakerBot Smart Extruder to print flexible, which resulted in a meeting with MakerBot in Brooklyn, where I was invited to join their Beta team. This modification currently has 1.5k+ downloads on Thingiverse.

Between 2017 and 2019, I was accepted on an additive manufacturing (AM) programme at MIT, even though their prerequisite was to be a university graduate. I learnt different industrial additive manufacturing technologies on the programme, and to progress further in electronics, I self-taught microcontroller programming, PCB design and took MITx’s online computer architecture courses for CPU design.

I schieved Certified SolidWorks Expert (CSWE) in mechanical design and in simulation (FEA), in 2019, and currently, there are only 12 people in the UK to pass both CSWEs.

In 2022, I completed my undergraduate study at the University of Warwick in Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering, with my dissertation on additive manufacturing and heat treatment of Scalmalloy using Laser Powder Bed Fusion and SEM of the samples.
