Andrew Cripps

  • Visiting Professor in Sustainable Building Engineering

Andrew Cripps has a degree in Physics from the University of Oxford and a PhD in Applied Mathematics from UCL. Over the last 35 years, he has worked close to the interface of research and consultancy.

His first job was at BRE, within the domestic ventilation team, working primarily on radon, the modelling of which forms the subject of his PhD. After BRE was privatised, he joined Buro Happold as coordinator for research development and innovation, and through this became involved in the EngD programmes at several universities. In this role, he has been involved in the supervision of at least 20 EngD students. He later chaired the Programme Board for the º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Centre for Innovative Construction Engineering.

Out of his research role grew the Buro Happold sustainability team that he led before moving to AECOM to share in the leadership of the larger sustainability team there. Recently his focus has shifted to district heating, and he has been the technical lead for the Heat Networks Investment Project and the Green Heat Network Fund. For some of this period he worked for Triple Point Investment Management (who are the leads for HNIP and GHNF).

Andrew is now working for Vital Energi, a leading delivery partner for heat networks and other low carbon technologies, offering Finance, Design, Build, Operate and Maintain services. His role is to help deliver the expected rapid growth of heat networks to decarbonise heat at scale across the UK.
