Academics from the Department of Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering release new book

We’re thrilled to announce our academics, Prof Simon Wang and Dr Christopher Harvey along with their team, have launched a new book: Interface Fracture in Layered Materials and Blister Mechanics of Thin Films.

Dr Christopher comments:

Thin film coatings and layered materials are used extensively in science, engineering, and technology. They are found in fibre-reinforced composite laminates in aircraft structures; thermal barrier coatings in aero-engines and power turbines; multi-layer Mo/Si mirrors in synchrotrons, telescope optics; and extreme ultraviolet optical systems; among many others. Understanding the mechanics of interface fracture is important to be able to develop more reliable, durable, and cost-effective solutions.

Over the last sixteen years, together with our colleagues, 10 PhD students, and research partners, we have made some significant research progress on the topic. This book gathers our contributions from the academic literature into one convenient book.”

A big congratulations to the team for the launch of this book.
