Alex studied MEng Product Design at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ and graduated in 2015. He accessed enterprise support from the University, gaining business skills that supported the foundations of his creative company, Tale Production.
Specialising in higher education, Alex is passionate about supporting young people into university.
His new YouTube channel, My Uni-verse, focuses on helping people who are looking into higher education options. Videos feature current university students who share their personal experiences to support the next generation.
What inspired Alex to launch the new channel and share this message about university? He told us:
“Most school students have anxieties and questions about university life. My Uni-verse is a peer support channel dedicated to helping every student, whatever their background, overcome those anxieties through informative videos from current students. So every student can feel confident in their higher education decision and career.
“Our aim is to create a portal of useful information that answers every question that any individual has about university life. We currently feature students from 14 different universities, including 2 from º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ.
“My uni-verse hopes to become a useful resource that will enable us to support universities with their widening participation targets and support them to continue their commitment to support under-represented communities.”
Alex is not only focused on supporting students into higher education, but he is also keen to help students during their degrees through work placements.
The alumnus has joined the University’s Talent Match scheme – a Careers Network initiative that offers students and recent graduates the opportunity to access short-term internships with a range of organisations. We asked Alex how he has found the process:
“This is our third time using Talent Match at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ and every time it has been an efficient process that has provided us with valuable members of the team.
“As a small business, saving time by not having to do the recruitment and having an individual come on board on a part-time basis is ideal for us.
“We also operate remotely, which I feel works well for students as it allows us to work around their sometimes ever-changing timetables and deadlines.”
Tale Production’s most recent Talent Match intern, Sascha, has shared an insight into the experience:
“I have gained so many valuable skills during my Micro-Internship Talent Match opportunity.
“I have learnt how to edit videos and upload them onto YouTube and manage content creators. I have learnt skills of keeping time management and keeping track of videos and content on social media channels. Most of all I have learnt how to stay organised. Being in charge of content creators and making sure all videos are edited and uploaded in time is difficult, but I feel I have done a good job.
“I am most definitely interested in pursuing a career similar to this one and I am looking to go into graphic design or marketing after university.”
My Uni-Verse is on YouTube, TikTok and Instagram. You can also check out Tale Production online.
