Luke is a three-time º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ graduate (BA, MA, and PhD English 2016), and currently works as a Content Manager at British Business Bank.
The alumnus has been an Alumni Advisory Board (AAB) member since 2019. In that time, he has been involved with several careers events, supporting students and alumni.
Luke will begin his term of three years as President on 1 September 2022, when current President Oliver Sidwell’s time on the Board will end.
Luke commented on securing the role as President:
"º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ has had a profound impact on the last 17 years of my life; as a student, staff member, and alumni board member, so I'm honoured to now have the opportunity to represent the views of the entire Alumni Association as its new President.
"I want to ensure that alumni everywhere experience the value of their connection to º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ and our community will have a vital role to play as the University undergoes a period of profound change.
"On behalf of all alumni I'd like to extend my thanks to our outgoing President, Ollie, who has represented our views and campaigned tirelessly through some of the most turbulent years in our history. You leave with our community in a stronger place and a bright future ahead of us."
Discussing the appointment of Luke and his time on the Board, Oliver said:
“It's been an honour and a privilege to spend the last three years representing the University as Alumni President. I've worked with some brilliant people and learned a huge amount in the Council meetings, particularly around the evolution of our strategy and feel proud to have been vocal on the shift towards a more inclusive and sustainable future in particular.
“Leading the Alumni Board has been great fun too, the last three years have naturally been more restrictive, however I feel we've adapted and achieved far more virtually than we ever have done!
“Cycling 130 miles on a treadmill in my garden over lockdown to raise money for the student hardship fund is a real highlight, and I've enjoyed supporting and speaking at various entrepreneurship events with students and alumni to share my experiences of starting and growing a business from university.
“Luke impressed me the moment he joined the Alumni board and I'm not surprised at all he was selected. He has experience of working in the public sector, whilst having a sharp eye on digital marketing and a deep appreciation for º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ which is curated during an eleven-year stint on campus!
“Luke - like I - has African violet running through his veins and when my three-year term is up in September, I wish him and the University all the best for the future.”
Applications to apply to become a member of the Alumni Advisory Board will open soon.
We look forward to working with Luke and thank you to Oliver for his contributions and dedication to the University.
