Kingsbury Lawn Care has been announced as a finalist for the FSB (Federation of Small Business) Awards, West Midlands region, for 'Micro-Business of the Year'. The winner of the award will progress to the UK finals in Glasgow in May.
We spoke to Jack about his business and the nomination, he said:
“Kingsbury Lawn Care was born while I was a º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ student. My placement year was spent building this then sole-trader business from 30 to 60 customers, and then deferred a year so I was able to grow the business enough to employ, allowing me to return to sit my final year.
“The company is now very different in that we are lawn treatment specialists, currently serving around 800 active customers, with a team made up of myself plus a full-time team of three. By late-summer of 2022 we expect to be servicing 1,100 house-proud homeowners for their lawn treatment needs, with forecasted revenues of around £250,000 for the current financial year. We expect to add one additional member to our team this calendar year, with the scope for year-on-year growth as the market expands and as we gain clients from our largely franchised competitors.
“We're developing a bit of a pedigree for this as we were named the Tamworth Business and Community Awards 'Trades Business of the Year' in 2018 and 2019, along with attracting the attention of ex-Dragon Theo Paphitis in 2020 by becoming a winner of his 'Small Business Sunday'.
“The FSB has been fantastic for my company and has provided a vital line of support. In 2020 they helped us to understand the legalities of the furlough scheme and the rapidly shifting small business landscape. They are one of the reasons we've been able to come out fighting in the last two years - along with the fantastic small team that we've built.
“For the FSB Awards, the judges were looking for evidence of sustained business growth over the last two years, along with future sustainability of the business. As a business that has onboarded net 300 new customers in the last 12 months and alongsideour repeat purchase business model, we believe we have this in abundance and have a shot for the UK final.”
Good luck to Jack and the team.
