Alumni duo create the next-generation smart sports mouthguard
Robert Paterson (Product Design Engineering 2017) and Thomas Quinn (Electronic and Electrical Engineering 2018) are the Co-Founders of ORB Innovations, who have created the world’s first smart sport mouthguard that allows contact & combat sport athletes to track their performance and wellness with heart rate and head impacts. It’s the world’s first mouthguard that monitors both physiology and biomechanics.

Kitt Medical wins London Mayor’s Entrepreneur Award – and £20,000 investment
Alumnus Zak Marks first shaped the idea of a ‘defibrillator for allergies’ while studying at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ. He went on to design ‘ana’ (now Kitt Medical) during the final year of his Industrial Design degree. Kitt recently won the London Mayor’s Entrepreneur Award - and its £20,000 prize will go towards taking its life-saving idea to market. His idea of a kit for treating anaphylaxis incidents being available in public places came from a lifetime with a severe nut allergy.

ACT Medical founder Joseph Bentley accepted for Enterprise Fellowship at Royal Academy of Engineering
Alumnus and ACT Medical founder Joseph Bentley (Product Design and Technology 2021) has won an 1851 Enterprise Fellowship at the Royal Academy of Engineering as he continues to develop his award-winning system for reducing the number of deaths from knife wounds.

Alumna celebrates longstanding service to Librarianship
Mano Ganeser (Library and Information Studies, 1989) has been a proud librarian ever since graduating from º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ. In December 2021, she retired after 54 years of working in various libraries around the UK. With her longstanding service, she is believed to be one of the longest ever actively serving librarians.

Alumnus Amos Simbo has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, having studied at the University from 2008-2011. Amos travelled to the UK from Zimbabwe in 2005, chasing his passion for engineering and entering the University through clearing.
