Karen, who graduated in 1984 with a degree in Chemistry and Management, joined the session from California, where she is based with Intel.
Talking through her career journey following her studies in Science, Karen shared with students how she has navigated through a career in marketing and answered questions on using her STEM related skills in this role.
Working internationally, students were interested to hear about adapting working styles in different countries and markets, and relocating overseas.
Karen, who has been named in Forbes’ Top 10 Most Influential Chief Marketing Officers in the world, shared various top tips with attendees. She talked about resilience, the importance of being organised, but not being afraid to ask for help. Speaking on leadership, Karen said “everybody is a leader, you don’t have to have direct reports”.
The talk was delivered as part of the Careers Network “Personal Best: My Story” series, where alumni share their career journeys and top tips with students.
Thank you to Karen for volunteering her time.
