Joining the University as a mature student, her children having grown up, Shakera’s thirst for knowledge and want to explore increased.
A lover of art, culture, colour, drawing and more, Shakera launched Shaku, developing a collection of luxury scarves.
Inspired by sketches, the scarves are wearable works of art that combine hand-drawn artistry with print technology.
The collections are available in limited edition print runs, creating timeless luxury that is rare, and with minimal textile waste.
Shaku is passionate about providing the highest quality products. Any scarf not passing a strict quality control process is rejected from sale – but the material does not go to waste.
Shakera said:
“We believe that it would be a devastating waste to simply discard or destroy this material so instead we innovate, collaborating with artisans to bring designs back to life in the form of new luxury accessories and homewares”.
Shakera finds inspiration for her works from nature, other artists, and exhibitions. She enjoys experimenting with a range of styles and themes, and she particularly enjoys using watercolours, fabric colours, ink and gouache in her works.
Here, Shakera is interviewed by Style Editor for Vogue UK & Cabana Magazine, Gianluca Longo.
