Alumnus and º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ-based athlete Taylor Campbell finished fourth in the Men’s Senior Hammer, finishing just a metre short of his personal best with a throw of 72.25m. Fellow alumnus Craig Murch, who is now based in Gloucester, finished just behind in fifth with a throw of 69.62m, which was also around a metre short of his personal best.
The pair, both making their first senior international appearances for Team GB, were coached at the championships by Team GB and º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ hammer coach and fellow alumnus, Dr John Pearson.
John, who graduated in 1989 with a BSc in Electrical, Computer and Systems Engineering, competed regularly for the University during his time as a student and is also a Visiting Professor of the University’s School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering.
The European Throwing Cup held its 19th edition in Samorin, Slovakia, on 9-10 March. The standalone throwing event sees athletes from across the continent compete in hammer, discus, javelin and shotput, allowing athletes the chance to compete whilst other disciplines compete indoors.
Taylor graduated in 2018 with a BSc in Applied Sports Science with Management, whilst Craig graduated in 2016 with a BSc in Computer Science.
Congratulations to Taylor, Craig and John on their recent success.
