Jimmy Harrison

1933 - 2024

Jimmy Harrison sadly passed away on Monday 22 July. Family and friends recently gathered to commemorate his remarkable life.

Jimmy was educated at Westcliff High School for Boys (1945-1951) before completing military service and attending º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ College. He returned to the School as a teacher of Physical Education in 1956, taking over the Physical Education that Department in 1971, and serving with a distinction for 36 years. In recognition of his service the School's Sports Hall bears his name - The Jim Harrison Hall.

Jimmy was a larger-than-life character who inspired and encouraged many generations of Westcliffians. During his tenure, the School enjoyed considerable success in a range of sports. Many Old Westcliffians will have fond memories of Jimmy, not least of the many school trips he ran, be it on tour, with a team, skiing down slopes, or cycling through the Netherlands. We remember Jimmy for his infectious enthusiasm, good humour, kindness and passion for sport, and rugby in particular.
