Molly Garbutt

Molly Garbutt's family have shared an obituary in her memory.

Molly Ann Garbutt ended her six year association with º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ after her masters graduation ceremony last December 2023.

During that time, she completed her BSc in Sport and Exercise Science which included her placement year which she also did at the university. She attained a 1st class degree with honours.

Molly then decided to do her MSc in Physiology and Nutrition of Sport and Exercise which she completed after a one year delay, attaining a distinction.

During covid she worked in one of the testing labs, it was around Easter 2022 she contracted covid herself.

Shortly after she developed long covid which destroyed her general health and started the decline in her mental health.

Although she made good progress, she never fully recovered and during 2023 her mental health started to decline, anxiety, stress, self doubt, over thinking, fear, all started to take their toll which eventually lead to an inability to handle noise, light, travel, talking.

Deep depression had set in at the start of 2024, tics, self harm and food issues all added to the state of mind which rapidly went downhill from the end of February.

Despite all our efforts to get help, she took her own life on April 3rd this year.

Molly was hard working, bright, funny, caring and best friend to everyone she met, she left an impression on everyone.

The message here is, if this could happen to her, it could happen to anyone, keep an eye on your friends and family and anyone who may be vulnerable.

Molly's funeral will be held at Barwick in Elmet (Leeds) All Saints' Church on Thursday May 9th at 2pm.

Everyone is welcome to celebrate a full life cut short.

Stay safe.

Regards,

The Garbutt family.
