In 2013 Matt made his World Rowing Cup debut in Sydney winning gold with the men’s eight. Several World and European successes later and Matt was headed to Rio. He was crowned an Olympic champion at the Rio 2016 Games after winning gold with the men’s eight rowing team. He returned to sailing and is now part of the British America’s Cup challenge.

Dr Michael Peyrebrune, Performance Support

Dame Liz Nicholl DBE, Sports Leadership

Liz Nicholl is a former Chief Executive of UK Sport. Once described as the most powerful woman in British Sport, Liz has presided over record performances by Team GB and transformed the UK high performance system.

Barbara Slater CBE, Sports Leadership

Dr Herbert Schofield, Sports Leadership

More than 100 years ago the Principal of º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ College, Dr Herbert Schofield, had a vision that sport could play a role in the life of every student at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ.

Over the years, and building on this ethos, the University saw a focus on programmes related to physical education, teacher training, and the development of sporting activity outside of the classroom. The College and sporting offer grew for several decades, with Dr Schofield in post for 35 years.

He built the foundations of what we know as º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ and º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ Sport today.
